Ourlot is a free product built by a small household, for households. This page sets out, in plain English, what we collect, why, and what rights you have over it. If anything here is unclear, email [email protected]and we'll sort it out.
Ourlot (ourlot.uk) is the data controller for the personal data described below. We're a small UK-based project, not a large company — we hold as little data as we can get away with.
| Data | Why we collect it | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Name and email address | To create and secure your account, and to sign you in | You, via Clerk sign-in (Google or email) |
| Profile photo | Shown in your household so people know who's who | Your Google account, via Clerk |
| Household name and members | To group your trusted businesses together | You |
| Trades and businesses you choose | So we can remember your plumber, electrician, and so on, and check they're still trading | You |
| Basic usage data (pages viewed, actions taken) | To understand what's useful and fix what's broken | Your browser, automatically |
We use Clerk, a third-party authentication provider, to handle sign in with Google. Clerk stores your account credentials and session securely on our behalf — we never see or store your password. Clerk's own privacy policy covers how it processes data as our processor; see clerk.com/legal/privacy.
Ourlot remembers the businesses you choose and the household you belong to so it can show you the right lot, alert you if a business stops trading, and suggest replacements. This personalisation only uses the data you and your household members give us directly — we don't buy in or infer data from anywhere else.
To keep your lot honest, we periodically check the trading status of businesses you've added against public Companies House records. This uses the business's public company details, not your personal data.
We keep your account and household data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we're required to keep it for legal reasons.
We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with advertisers. We use a small number of processors to run the service:
Each of these is bound by a data processing agreement and may only use your data to provide their service to us.
As a UK resident, you have the right to:
You can request an export or deletion of your data any time from your account settings, or by emailing [email protected]. We'll respond within 30 days.
Ourlot uses only the cookies needed to keep you signed in and remember your session — nothing for advertising or tracking. See our cookie notice for details.
If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be announced to account holders directly.
